Ancillary planning-V2

Ancillary planning - V2
When completing some of our edits of our planned ancillaries we also came up with a new idea that we could possible decide to use instead of the first set of planned ones; we were thinking that there is a lot of talk in our song of newspapers and the main artist being turned from a scruffy no life person to a much more successful person a 'superstar' by 'putting on his boots' and kept on walking (getting on with life and following his dreams no matter what obstacles may face him). Playing off this theme running through the song of newspapers and the media we came up with a new theme; for the poster and the main front panel on the CD digi-pack we are going to make a mock up front page of a newspaper with the same image idea we talked about in the first 'planning ancillaries' post of a main image of kuziva but split in half with the scruffy unsuccessful side on the left and the smart 'superstar' side of kuziva on the right. But then when it comes to the other panels on the CD digi-pack they will also follow a newspaper style theme. The sketches of the plan are below:      (also if we complete this ancillary idea we can get audience feedback from it and decide whether this idea is better than the previous ancillary ideas - so we can use the best in the audiences opinion)

Graphic match testing

Graphic match testing
When completing our storyboards and our idea, we wanted to include quite a few graphic matches that can be used as transitions form one location to another, one of the main graphic matches in our production is when Kuziva walks from a urban city area into a field, rural are and we wanted the graphic match to happen while he jumped over a trailing to make it more interesting, once getting multiple shots we edited it up to see how it turned out before using it and this was the result:

Loccation scouting

Location scouting

One of the locations that will appear in our music video is Bourne town. The town will appear several times throughout  the music video. There will be random shots of the town at the beginning. This will give the audience a feel of the area they are. It will also help starting here because as the video progresses it the musician will go from a village/town to a more urban like environment The random shots at the beginning of the music video will last for approximately 25 seconds. The use of a town will also help the sort of emotion we want the audience to feel while listening to the song. The use of a village setting creates a lonely or isolated feel this is because as the main musician travels he will go from a populated place to being surrounded by fields. This will show his loneliness ,at this point the lyric 'put on ya boots and keep on walking'  will be said and he will start walking.

The second town location is going to be Peterborough town centre. There is going to be random shots of the town centre which will show the contrast of the countryside town and a city. This will last for about 25 seconds.  After the musician travels from the loneliness of the countryside he will then travel to a more urban area. Here he will still be walking and travelling to a place that's unknown to the audience.  Using Peterborough will be good because it will show a good contrast between Urban and rural. This will also help change the mood of the music video because gradually the mood of the music video will change and become happier. This will happen because humorous things will begin to happen while the musician is walking through the town. This will further help us represent the disjuncture in the music promo. We will be using several different locations in Peterborough. They will be used to help create a disjuncture music promo.

Another location is the Peterborough train station. The station will be pivotal in showing  the transition between scenes. This location will be key because it will show time passing, the train station will be important because it distinguishes the location change. It is also important because the video is based on travelling in a straight line and the use of this train station will be a large part of this. Because the video is going to be disjuncture the train station will also help us achieve the disjuncture element of the music promo. We will also be travelling to a different location so the use of the train station will be vital.

This is the second train station we will be using. This will be the place we travel to from Peterborough train station. The use of this train station will also show the distance we have travelled which is a big part of the music video. The train station will also be key in showing a change in the mood of the music video. The audience will be able to see the further we travel the better the mood of the music video will be.

One of the key places that we will need is the field that the musician walks in. This is the link between the rural and urban areas. the field represents the sad lonely part of the promo which is a the beginning. The field is essential in showing the audience the emotion of the promo at the beginning which will change later on in the promo. There will be random shots at the beginning of the video will show the lonely area the musician is in.

Music Video Analysis- 'All About That Bass'

Pop- Meghan Trainor- ‘All about the bass’

All about the base adheres to most of the conventions of the Pop genre. This is shown from the choreographed dancing in the music video. Meghan Trainor has several other women with her that a times dance in tune with her, this is shown in nearly all Pop music videos and is a big part of the Pop genre. Another main convention of the pop genre is the use of eccentric colours and dress code. They mainly do this to show the youth culture while also making the video as visually pleasing, this is because the videos are mainly targeted to a younger audience. The music video ha a colour scheme that has vibrant colours which further represents the video is targeted at an audience that will be captivated visually.  The majority of the music video consists of close ups, long shots and mid shots however, at times the video uses the bird’s eye view shot. Close ups are mostly of the musician when she’s singing; the shots are usually longer than other close up shots that don’t involve the musician. Other close up shots that don’t have the musician are short and show interesting people that are dressed in an extreme way or of the dancers.  The long shots show the entire room which is in a vibrant colour and the camera usually zooms in to focus on the musician or an important person in the shot. Mid shots are used throughout the video and are mainly focused the musician, the shot is used to show the important feature around her while not showing the entire room. The music video is Mostly narrative, this is because throughout the music video there are scenes which represent the lyrical content such as ‘stick figure silicone Barbie dolls’ which is then shown in the music video.

This shot shows the birds eye view which is used several times throughout the music video. this shot shows the vibrant colours that are used in the promo and highlights the musician. When this is shot is used it only shows the musician which and focuses on her. This is a typical convention of the Pop genre to fixate on the musician.
This is a mid shot of other perfomers in the music promo. The shot is very quick and is shown to further establish how eccentric the music video is. The use of this shot is appealing to the younger target audience. The shot is also representing the narrative in the music promo.

This is a mid shot of the musician and back up dancers. The shot shows some of the typical conventions of the Pop genre. One convention that is represented in the shot is of the vibrant colours that are displayed and another is the cheoreography. The shot also focuses on the main musician while blurring out the backup dancers. This further emphasises the importance of the musician.

This is a close up of the musician and back up dancers.Again the musician is focused while the back up dancers are blurred. The shot also shows the conventions of the Pop genre.

This is a close up shot shown in the music video. This is one of few shots that doesn't involve the musician. The shot is an extremelry quick shot and doesn't last long. this occurs throughout the music promo while also showing conventions of the Pop genre.

Mise en scene

Mise en scene: Costume

One of the main outfits in the production is the casual outfit he main signer will be wearing.  He will be wearing various different casual outfits throughout the production and In various different environments. This will be showing the contrast between smart and casual wear that is described in the lyrics. The clothes will be provided by the person and will link to the lyrical content. They will represent the contrast of smart clothing and casual clothing throughout the production.
Another main outfit is a suit which will be worn by the lead singer. He will be wearing a suit a certain stages of the music video, this will be a representation of some of the lyrical content in the music video. This will represent the ‘superstar’ that is in the lyrics. This will also show a contrast of smart and casual clothing.
The boots are essential because the music video is centred on the boots.  The boots will first feature at the beginning of the music video and will feature throughout the music video.
